Social Anxiety in Adult Dyslexics: A View on Gender Comparison
Abstract
Present study aims to identify the gender wise impact of social anxiety among adult dyslexic students. This study supports the idea of conducting research on male and female dyslexic adults who have comparatively higher levels of social anxiety which is needed to address and eradicate properly. Quantitative, cross-sectional research design is used in this study to measure the level of social anxiety among adult dyslexic male and female students. Participants (n= 46 females, 38 males) were recruited from the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Apart from the demographic sheet two scales were required to gather the desired data on dyslexia and social anxiety. Adult Dyslexia Checklist is developed by Smythe and Everatt (2001) and have sufficient reliability of all the items used in the scale (0.69). Social anxiety questionnaire for adults (Caballo et al, 2010) is also a reliable measure (0.90). Results of present study indicate that there exist no gender differences for social anxiety among adult dyslexic students.
